Every registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. That way, you've got both your website and your e-mails managed by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server manages the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, whenever you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be sent to the servers of a different company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you may have your website and your emails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account through our company and you would like to switch either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it will take you literally simply two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or create will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is very easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are handled through our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you can click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not experience any problems if you decide to point your website or e-mails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you may also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
